Have you ever been so desperate in finding luck that you’re willing to steal one? Well, it happened to me. I never really imagined myself to actually stoop so low as to get a thing which wasn’t mine just so that luck will find me. This was two nights ago when I went to my sister’s room to watch television. On top of the TV set laid the object of my desperation. A brass frog with a coin in its mouth, it’s one of those Chinese lucky charms you get to buy in tiangges or malls. I was so desperate to have lady luck with me that I was willing to get the frog and put it in my room instead. The funny thing was I didn’t even know what the frog stood for. All I knew is that it brought some good luck and I needed one. You see for the past several years I believed myself to have lost all good fortune and luck. Meanwhile, my sister who owns the frog seemed to get good fortune. I know she was not going to get at mad at me for getting it but I was still ashamed nonetheless. Anyway, I realized the error of my ways; I don’t really need to rely on objects to give me good fortune. But if you’re willing to give lucky charms hey, I wouldn’t turn it down.
Here's the culprit!
Here’s what I found out about the frog when I researched it on the Internet:
It is known as The Lucky Money Toad/Frog or the Ch’an Chu. It sits on either a haphazard pile of coins, ingots or a bagua. My sister’s sits on an ingot. Apparently it attracts wealth, long life, luck and safety. Its mostly used for business. Whew! at least I’m not too far off. Here’s a site to know more about the background of the Ch’an Chu which you can visit.
